Hey campers!
Finally back for another Monster Camp Monday. What a wild few weeks it’s been. As usual, I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves in the ways you need to. It seems like there’s a new tragedy every week, and it’s getting harder and harder to get out of bed. For me, escaping with TV, movies, books, and music is really all I’ve been able to do. What do you use to escape? How do you let yourself feel everything you need to feel, and then let it go for a few hours so your mind can wander?
Last weekend I visited New York and hit up Kim’s Video. The landmark is nestled in the basement of the Alamo Drafthouse on the lower east side. My partner and friends then entered into the immersive world of the Stranger Things experience, and it really got me excited for season four (by the time this letter hits your inbox, I’ve probably binged all of it. No sense of self-control here). We’ll definitely covering the new season on the Fear Queers podcast in the next few weeks!
And now, I’m writing to ask for your help! My goal for the end of June is to compile a trans, GNC, nonbinary horror master list for all to share and enjoy. I’m sure there are lots of lists and write-ups online (link me if you see them, please!) but your input would hopefully make this one a more unique, standout version that has contemporary and traditional media. I want to show how essential trans people are in horror, embrace the toxic characters and portrayals, and show others who we really are and what we add to horror narratives. We are free, complicated, beautiful, resilient people. I hope our media shows us that more and more as the years go on.
So yes, I need you! Send me your trans, GNC, and nonbinary horror recommendations—TV, movies, books, video games, you name it—and I’ll add your picks to the running list. Feel free to add anything you’d like. Just the name of the film is fine, but if you want to give a plot summary or anything extra, please do! While all of these picks don’t have to be necessarily “canon” (because nuance exists), I just want to include as much as I can to get the broadest scope possible. Again, we are vast, free, and complicated!

Can’t wait to see what y’all come up with, and I’m so excited to share this list with everyone. Share the form with your friends! As always, if you have any questions, you can email me: hellomonstercamp@gmail.com.
