Hey campers,
Another week, another Monster Camp Monday. I know it’s been a hard time and there’s a lot going on in the world, but you made it through another week. I’m really glad you did.
I’m also really glad to announce something very exciting! Monster Camp and Chicago’s very own brand new horror-themed coffee shop The Brewed have teamed up for a Queer Horror Movie Night on June 11th. If you’re in Chicago, please consider coming and celebrating queer horror during pride month with us!
We’ll be showing the iconic Jennifer’s Body (2009), directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody. Starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, this movie hasn’t always been well-loved/regarded. Now, Jennifer’s Body is considered to be the voice of a queer horror generation, and its relevance and themes become more apparent after each rewatch.
Join us as we dive in to the world of Devil’s Kettle! There’s a $5 suggested donation and all proceeds go to the Brave Space Alliance, the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ center located on the South Side of Chicago dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent resources, programming, and services.
Here’s the Facebook event (if you still use those). Bring your friends, grab some delicious drinks, and let’s sing along to the perfect soundtrack. Remember—she’s actually evil, not just high school evil.
There most likely won’t be a new post next week due to some traveling and general busyness, but look out for an episode of Fear Queers coming out this Friday! In the meantime, read up on past posts and let me know what you’re watching, reading, playing, and consuming lately in the comments.
Oh and P.S.: Monster Camp stickers will be available soon (and at the event)! 💕
Stay queer, spread fear,
Beyza
Umm this is so so exciting and so cool!! 🤩 Congratulations 🎊 🎉 🎈
